Hiro and Baymax VS Hiccup and Toothless (Big Hero 6 VS How To Train Your Dragon) Fictional Feud Blog

“It takes two to make a thing go right.”

- Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock

Hiro and Baymax, the genius boy and his robot duo from Big Hero 6.

Hiccup and Toothless, the adventurous boy and his dragon duo of How to Train Your Dragon.

Across many animated movie series there are depictions of the idea of best friends, but no two animated films go into the idea of unlikely friendships like these two.

While soaring in the air and taking to the skies with their team of heroes, they’ll defeat any villain in their way through the crafty intellect of one and the brawn of the other. They may be strong on their own but together with their partner, they’re unstoppable.

Before We Begin

We will be using all media for both that isn’t explicitly non-canon (refer to Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon), in a clear different verse of crossovers (Kingdom Hearts or DreamWorks Super Star Kartz), and the original material of comics and books that don’t connect to the Dreamworks and Disney series other than the original idea.

Background

Hiro and Baymax

“We didn’t set out to be superheroes, but sometimes life doesn’t go the way you plan. The good thing is that my brother wanted to help a lot of people, and that’s what we’re going to do. Who are we?”

Hiro Hamada was a prodigy and super genius, graduating High School at 13 and not really having much aspirations in life beyond bot-fighting illegally. That is until his brother, Tadashi introduced him to his college or “nerd school” as Hiro called it, The San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. Hiro wanted to impress Professor Callaghan and get into the school, which with the help of his Microbots, was able to do quite easily.

But after a freak accident causing the building to catch fire, Tadashi went in to try and save Callaghan but ended up losing his life in the process.

Hiro was in a very depressive state after the loss of his brother, but found comfort when his final invention before his passing woke up when Hiro was hurt, Baymax.

Baymax is a personal healthcare assistant that will help anyone experiencing pain or injuries. Hiro doesn’t think much of Baymax at first but eventually had to chase him through San Fransokyo when Baymax was curious to where the last Nanobot was heading towards.

It turns out that it was going to a warehouse where his Microbots are being mass produced by a masked man, Hiro decides to go after this man while upgrading Baymax with combat capabilities. This would not end well and Tadashi’s friends would find Hiro and Baymax as well, Hiro comes up with a new plan as he would upgrade them all to have superpowers and Baymax would scan the city for where this masked man is.

Baymax succeeds in this and leads the newly formed team to an island, the group finds footage of an old portal test where Callaghan’s daughter was the pilot sent into it, this project failed and was shut down with Callaghan pissed at Krei, the founder of the project who ignored its safety. They battle Callaghan over a newly created portal that would be used to destroy Krei’s company and eventually beat Callaghan by outsmarting him, thinking it would all be over.

That is until Baymax's scanner alerts him that Abigail (Callaghan’s daughter) is still alive in the portal, so Hiro and Baymax journey inside of the portal to save her. But not without the cost of losing Baymax himself, Hiro leaves satisfied with his care and saves Abigail.

This would be presumed to be a sad ending for Hiro, losing someone else important to him, but he sees in what is left of Baymax’s armor that his chip is still intact. So Hiro builds a new Baymax body that brings him back to life, and later officially forming Big Hero 6 with the rest of his friends and battling whatever supervillains come in to wreck San Fransokyo.

So whoever you are, you better watch out if you’re planning on doing any evil deeds, because with the brilliance of one and the brawn of another, you’ll face the might of Hiro and Baymax!

Hiccup and Toothless

“Yes, the world believes that dragons are gone, if they ever existed at all. But we Berkians, we know otherwise. And will guard the secret, until the time comes when dragons can return in peace.”

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III was born in the viking ages of old, but with one small twist… There are a whole lot of dragons. And it just so happens the leader of the place he lives, Berk, is also his father Stoik and one of the toughest vikings around. Wanting to live up to his father’s legacy and prove himself worthy of being his son, Hiccup tried to take down the rarest and most powerful dragon of them all, a Nightfury. To which Hiccup actually did it, but nobody really believed him. So he set off later to find what he captured and kill it, but when looking into its eyes, he just couldn’t do it. So instead he tried to let it free, where it remained in a ravine due to Hiccup taking half of its tailfin away.

Hiccup would use his inventive mind to try and fix this, while researching dragons himself to find weaknesses. As well as bonding with the dragon he now nicknamed Toothless.

However this worked too well as when he was rising up the ranks, he now had to face and kill a dragon himself in front of the public, something he can never do.

Toothless heard of this and protected his new friend which led to Stoik leading the charge to the biggest dragon around, The Red Death.

Hiccup would enlist the help of the other teenagers in his village to help train dragons and fight against this huge dragon which would have killed everyone if not for them. Hiccup later reunited with his friend and together beat the colossal dragon, but not without a cost. Hiccup lost his leg, matching what he did to Toothless prior, putting them on “equal footing” as one may say (so funny).

Hiccup ushered in a new way of life around Berk where dragons and humans live in harmony. And this would help Berk prosper for years as Hiccup continued to seek out new dragons and islands, as well as beating any dragon catchers who got in the way. Namely the two biggest, Drago and Grimmel.

Drago came with the adventure of Hiccup discovering his mother is still alive and the existence of the Alpha Dragons. He and Toothless would defeat Drago and his Alpha, proving they are the Dragon Master and Alpha Dragon. Giving them a big reputation that would be sought after by Grimmel, the killer of the Nightfuries. After his defeat and the discovery of a Lightfury, Hiccup realized that humans don’t deserve dragons, not for now at least. So after a heartbreaking goodbye, Hiccup and Toothless let go of each other to start their own families. Where they would meet in the future once again, reunited as best friends, Hiccup and Toothless.

Experience and Skill

Hiro and Baymax

Super Genius

Hiro is very commonly regarded for being a kid genius for his age, graduating high school at 13 and making it into one of the most prestigious colleges at only 14 years old, building extremely complex machinery in short time periods, and tricking, manipulating and figuring out schemes from super genius robots and villains.

Creativity

Hiro has an incredibly creative mind, being able to create several inventions and machines and is even able to incorporate that into his combat experience.

Such as when he was even able to outsmart Noodle Burger Boy (a robot built to predict any move before it happens) by swapping his armor with Wasabi and adapting his friend’s fighting style to win.

Heroic Activities

As the lead members of Big Hero 6, Hiro and Baymax have been on several missions against giant threats, including but not limited to…

Yokai, Obake, Trina, Di Amara, Noodle Burger Boy, Yama, Momokase, Baron Von Streamer, and many more.

While it may take a few trials and errors, Big Hero 6 always finds a way to beat the supervillains.

Various Activities

Baymax has partaken in many activities in his shorts;

Including but not limited to Clothes Changing, Skating, Cat-Sitting, Tennis, and helping many people across Baymax!

Hiccup and Toothless

Exploration Skills

Hiccup is extremely proficient in exploration and documenting his discoveries, mostly that of new islands and dragons.

He is by far one of the most intelligent people in his verse and is proven to be an intellectual equal to the likes of experienced dragon hunters Grimmel and Viggo.

Dragon Taming/Research

Hiccup is also proficient in adapting to his environment to tame or beat dragons.

Starting with his documentations on how Toothless reacts to certain things and using it to beat out other dragons that he didn’t want to hurt.

Over the years he continued this passion and learned things about dragons that nobody could have even dreamed about.

Arsenal

Hiro and Baymax

Baymax’s Chips

Aside from one, these chips were all created by Hiro to improve Baymax in specific ways that his regular programming would not while fitting 4 at a time.

Healthcare Chip: Built by Tadashi, gives Baymax all the info there is to know about healthcare (10,000 even) and automatically makes Baymax respond to any cry for help with a pain chart from 1-10. Eventually Baymax was upgraded into a newer version at the end of the film and for the TV series, but still having the same chip where he is the robot we all know and love.

This chip can be uploaded into a computer where Baymax’s consciousness remains.

Fighting Chip: When Hiro set out to find out who stole his Microbots, he installed a fighting chip into Baymax that knows many forms of fighting. And when his healthcare chip is taken out, Baymax will enter a berserk mode that will attack anyone Hiro tells him too.

He is described by the end of the movie as a “meched-out warrior”.

Superhero Chip: Hiro created a superhero chip for Baymax to increase heroic activities and make himself a better hero.

Dance Chip: Hiro made a dance chip for Baymax to teach Fred how to dance in basically every form.

Battery Boost Chip: Speeds up Baymax’s motion and thinking while increasing his battery’s length to last an entire day.

Junk Data Chip: From the Baymax: Dreams series, removes any unwanted junk data from his system.

Sleep Mode Chip: Also from the Baymax: Dreams series where Baymax sleeps to remove any unwanted viruses in his system that would drain his battery.

Personality Chip: … also a chip from the Baymax: Dreams series, pulls Baymax’s different personalities together into a single Baymax.

Overdrive Chip: Based on Karmi’s fanfic, Baymax enters a giant mode with a sword that drains his battery super quickly (essentially after a single attack), this also augments his speed and comes with a sonic attack with his aquatic armor.

Lie Detector Chip: Hiro programmed a lie detector chip that would be able to prove Liv Amara is behind all the monsters in the city

Nanobot Chip: Allows Baymax to control nanobots, even smaller versions of Microbots.

Suit(s)

Hiro’s armor gives him…

Integrated Computer: Hiro has an integrated computer built within the forearm of his glove.

Gloves: Include magnet locks which can pull metal towards his glove or reverse the polarity and launch it, being able to manipulate electricity, disassemble machinery, and fire sonic waves.

Magnetic Coils: Hiro can swing around with electric coils.

 Nano-Dex: allows him super strength.

As well as a ninja-esque suit that can turn him invisible.

Baymax’s suit has…

Wings and Jet Boots: for flight.

Flashlight: From his palm.

Back Panel: Segment on the back of his suit that can be rewired to turn him back on if he is depowered from a magnetic field blast.

Rocket Fists: A projectile of his fist (this can be used against Baymax if he cannot get it back in time).

Both also have a TITANIUM coated variant, a SCUBA variant, and an ULTRA variant with a booster jetpack and an extra battery for Baymax, while Hiro has thrusters for flight and magnet launchers.

Megabot

Hiro’s invention from his robot fighting days, controlled via a remote controller and able to split apart into 3 sections.

It also later was upgraded to have laser eyes.

Microbots

Hiro created 9 trash cans worth of Microbots that are all controlled via his headband. They can shape them into whatever he imagines in his mind.

Wristwatch

In the comics, Hiro has a wristwatch for communication between him and the team.

Anti-Gravity Device

In S1E6, Hiro takes a device that when put together, creates an anti-gravity zone within the area far enough to reach an arena outside of the room they were in.

It is unclear if Hiro gave this back to Krei or kept it.

Energy Amplifier

In S1E24, Hiro makes an energy amplifier that massively increases the electrical output of a machine.

Mini-Magnet(s)

In S2E1, Hiro created a mini magnet device that pulls anything magnetic near it.

He uses much more later on while firing it out of his Ultra suit.

Snow Machine

In S2E18, created by Tadashi and gifted to Hiro, is able to create snow in an area within seconds.

Robot Hiro

In S1E10, Hiro remotely controls a robot version of himself that can fly.

It later can also detach its limbs.

Skymax

In S1E11, Hiro can summon a rocket robot with his phone that also sends his and Baymax’s suits directly to him.

There are also 5 seperate ones for each member of the team.

Mini-Max

In S1E17, a miniature version of Baymax with a superhero chip installed that can do everything the original’s armor can and knows everything about superheroes.

Mech Suit

In S1E12, Hiro and Wasabi build a mech suit that has an energy blade and can fire purple blasts.

Baymax Mech

In S2E15, Hiro builds a replica of Baymax’s armor that replicates Baymax’s Ultra Armor, Voice and Appearance.

Appearing to be able to copy any of Baymax’s regular capabilities aside from those of his chips.

Mega-Max

Originally piloted by Roddy and Mini-Max, Hiro later controls by himself a Kaiju sized Baymax mech armor that can release an army of Megabots from its feet.

It also later fires a laser cannon.

Hiccup and Toothless

Armor(s)

Hiccup owns his Dragon Scale Armor which has the capabilities of

Wings: When in the air, Hiccup can glide in the air alongside Toothless to soar in the skies.

Fireproof: Nightfury scales are inherently fireproof, meaning Hiccup can walk through fire unscathed.

Toothless has his Screaming Death-Scale Armor and Gronckle Iron Armor.

Which covers him in armor dense enough to block fire from arrows but light enough to not stop his flight.

Tailfin(s)

Hiccup has made many saddles and tailfins for Toothless across the franchise;

First Tailfin: Hiccup’s original invention for Toothless, allows him to fly as long as Hiccup is on the saddle.

Prosthetic Tailfin: From the Gift of the Nightfury special, Hiccup built a tailfin that would allow Toothless to fly on his own, however he rejects it in the end.

Fire-Proof Tailfin: Similar to the prosthetic one but fire-proof which Toothless accepts.

Inferno

Inferno, also known as the Dragonblade is a tool hiccup forged to help pacify wild dragons that come their way. However this doesn't stop its effectiveness in combat as the flames emitted from the sword burn through the target. In addition by placing a small canister of Hideous Zippleback gas inside the hilt of inferno, Hiccup can release said gas throughout the pommel and ignite it to create small-scale to large-scale explosions.

Shield

Hiccup once had his wooden shield which he has since improved to be more defensive against dragons with;

Gronckle Iron: Making the shield now metal plated and fireproof.

Crossbow: Hiccup improved his shield to be able to transform into a crossbow (as seen by gif) and once combined it with Inferno to fire flaming arrows, he also has a bow and arrows on his own.

Grappling Hook: Hiccup can fire a grappling hook out of the shield to reel in fish and battle Dagur.

Catapult: Hiccup can launch things with his built in catapult.

Bola Launcher: Fires out bolas to restrain dragons in place, he also has them individually.

Hiccup also uses his shield to exploit the weaknesses of dragons being blinded by light shining in its face.

Knife

The knife that basically started it all, used to cut Toothless free instead of killing him.

(Note that Hiccup never uses this in combat)

      Death Song Amber Glasses

The "Death Song Amber" Glasses was another one of Hiccup's inventions in order to minimize  threats against different dragons. These goofy goggles are surprisingly effective protecting the user by bright lights like the heat from staring at the sun to straight up flames from flightmare dragons.

Dragon’s Eye

Hiccup recreated the ancient artifact known as The Dragon’s Eye which contains all knowledge of dragons.

Misc. Inventions

Hiccup has made;

A multi firing crossbow, earplugs, magnifying glass, telescope, a larger telescope, sound amplifier, diving bell, spare tailfin, and a spare leg.

Lollipops: Have a lollipop.

Hiccup and Toothless

Dragon Physiology

Being a dragon has its perks due to how they inherently are as creatures, mainly that of having flight and claws.

But as a Night Fury, Toothless also has retractable teeth and spines, as well as enhanced senses.

Plasma Blasts

Toothless can fire blasts of plasma which can do substantial damage against whoever is struck with it.

He can also bounce them off of surfaces, create smaller blasts, and can fire 6 at a time.

Electricity Manipulation

When high in the air, Toothless can generate a ton of electricity before he can use…

Electric Cloaking

Toothless can use electric cloaking to become practically invisible.

He can also use this offensively to create a explosion should anything surround him.

Echolocation

Toothless can create a sonic scream that allows him to use echolocation to locate anything Toothless needs to.

This works in caves, the air, blizzards, and water.

Alpha Dragon

As the Alpha Dragon himself, Toothless has control over all dragons and can resist mind manipulation from others such as the former Alpha, The Bewilderbeast.

Weaknesses

Hiro and Baymax

  • Hiro experiences genius block from time to time

  • Baymax will automatically respond to any cry for help

  • Baymax requires charging after a certain amount of time (Ranges from around 10 minutes to over an hour)

  • Baymax’s programming blocks him from hurting a human being

  • Will malfunction if his insides are wet (S1E7)

Hiccup and Toothless

Before The Verdict

Solar Flare

In the game, “Dragons: Rise of Berk” there is a Dragon called Solar Flare who has the description of (and is also mentioned in the TV series) his scales burning as hot as the sun, getting results up to 1 - 82 Teratons of TNT.

The game itself being used is fine enough, as Dean DuBois has statements clarifying what is canon to the HTTYD films and what is not. But the issues that would arise with this feat would be how;

It sounds like it is very hyperbole, how would anyone in that era know how hot the sun actually is? This group of Vikings somehow discovered how hot the sun is several centuries before many scientists of the modern age debated its topic? And who’s to even say they would get the Sun’s temperature correct, they still believe in Norse Mythology and that Sol and Mani would be the cause of the Sun’s creation.

Yeah idk, it just sounds really weird.

Chibi Hero 6

Over the course of the series there are fanfic segments of the characters written by Karmi where they are cutesy versions of their canon selves.

This eventually got shifted into several shorts called “Chibi Hero 6” which follow the same idea but not from Karmi’s perspective, there are a variety of feats that could potentially come from these such as Hiro getting launched into space, Hiro surviving an explosion seen from out of orbit, Mochi created an explosion also seen from out of orbit, and the most impressive one, Hiro’s energy amplifier creating a sun.

These could get results from Country - Large Star which yes, would in fact beat Hiccup and Toothless.

The issue being that these Chibi shorts are from being very canon as they just straight up resurrect dead characters from the show like Obake and in the actual show are told as fan fiction.

Along with the fact of every other Disney Chibi Tale blatantly being non canon such as Luz Noceda meeting Dr Doofenshmirtz.

Lasers in Big Hero 6

There are a lot of cases in Big Hero 6: The Series where many characters react to what is called and may appear to be “lasers”, however more often than not these “lasers” don’t follow the rules of what would apply as being light speed.

The best case one could make would be with Noodle Burger Boy, a villain who’s whole gimmick (aside from being a food chain mascot robot) shoots “lasers” from his eyes.

But these “lasers” are incredibly inconsistent and weirdly both follow some rules of light speed lasers and break others, mainly burning on contact, retaining the same color, etc.

But also do not travel in a straight line or are called light speed at any point in the series.

Best case to make for FTL BH6 would be the feats of Wasabi reacting to electricity, Trengrove dodging a plasma blast, and GoGo reacting to what is called, “a flash of light”.

Summary

Hiro and Baymax

“I am satisfied with my care.”

Advantages:

  • Hiro would destroy Hiccup

  • Faster

  • Greater intelligence

  • More versatile

  • Wider and more effective arsenal

  • Better skilled

Disadvantages:

  • Weaker than Toothless

  • Baymax is susceptible to electricity attacks

  • Baymax can only be active for so long before he needs to be charged

  • Overdrive Baymax needs to be quick when attacking the duo, or else he’ll shut down

  • Worse movie

Hiccup and Toothless

“It’s okay, I love you too, and I want you to be free.”

Advantages:

  • Toothless is much more powerful than both Hiro and Baymax

  • Superior teamwork

  • More experienced

  • Better combat experience

  • Greater flying skills and mobility

  • Better movies

Disadvantages:

  • Toothless could be distracted by Hiro’s sonic blasts

  • Hiccup is far weaker than Hiro

  • Have never been even heard or seen anything quite like Baymax

  • Not as intelligent

  • Definitely a lackluster arsenal in comparison

  • Numbers disadvantage

Verdict

So yeah, might be a bit of an underwhelming conclusion but we wanted to get this out quick and there’s really not much to cover, H&T even without the country level ends are hundreds of times stronger. While H&B may be fast enough to dodge their hits for a while and use their arsenal to distract the duo, eventually Toothless is gonna get a hit and end up beating them both.

This also comes into play with H&T’s vast experience (even against much larger Kaiju threats like The Red Death and Bewilderbeast, which would help them against Mecha Max), better teamwork (Big Hero 6: The Series has the team bicker constantly, about 60% of the time it being Hiro’s fault), and better mobility in both the ground and air (Toothless being a dragon gives him inherently superior flying skills over Baymax, but also Baymax has made it very explicit across the entire series and film that he is very immobile, which would be a huge flaw when H&B’s main advantage would be speed).

Another huge detriment is how Baymax actively runs on a timer and cannot make the fight last as long as they need too to tire Hiccup and Toothless out, especially if Baymax uses Overcharge which will take away a lot of his battery even with his later upgrades in the series. Along with the fact that Baymax can be shut down with a proper electric attack, which Toothless can generate.

So while H&B can make the fight last long with their speed, intelligence, versatility and skill advantages. At the end of the day, H&T are too strong, experienced, flight skilled, and exploitative of Baymax’s weaknesses to lose.

Maybe Big Hero 7 will give them planet level scaling idk.
